Disaster Relief

Image goes here.

When disaster strikes, the devastation left behind can be more than physical.  We have the opportunity to reach out to those in crisis to demonstrate the love and hope found in Christ through practical and significant acts of kindness, mercy, witness and care and to work side-by-side with those communities to restore them to wholeness.

MERCI

The MERCI Mission Center in Goldsboro, NC is an outreach program of the North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church.  Following the devastation of Hurricane Floyd in 1999, the Conference made a commitment to help people in need living in Eastern North Carolina and the MERCI Mission Center was born.  Since its inception, the mission of MERCI has gown and now includes:

Disaster Ministries:  training & preparedness workshops, early response coordination, and long-term recovery coordination

Mission Support:  receive, sort, and distribute supplies for local, national, and international mission projects

Coordinating area volunteers:  organize teams for local and remote projects, provide logistical support

UMCOR

The United Methodist Committee on Relief is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church.  At work in more than 80 countries worldwide, including the United States, UMCOR's mission, grounded in the teachings of Jesus, is to alleviate human suffering—whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster, with open hearts and minds to all people.  UMCOR responds to natural or civil disasters that are interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own.

UMCOR partners with local organizations and survivors to rebuild their livelihoods, health and homes.  In times of acute crisis they mobilize emergency supplies, fresh water, and temporary shelter to stricken areas, and then stay as long as it takes to implement long-term recovery.

Efficient-AquaFunding Promise-100% Efficient
Every dollar you give to UMCOR goes to the program you designate.  UMCOR is 100% efficient.

The One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering allows UMCOR to make—and to keep—this promise.  OGHS funds all of the cost of doing business for UMCOR. They do not receive apportionment funds or any other world service funds.
