Lay Shepherds Ministry

"Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock."
1 Peter 5:2-3

The Lay Shepherds Ministry is comprised of people who have been called by the Holy Spirit, equipped through training, and commissioned by the church to perform pastoral work within the households of our congregation and the community.

UPCOMING SEMINAR & TRAINING:  SEPTEMBER 23 & 24, 2011

"Can The Pastor Do It Alone?" will be the theme of a Lay Minister's Equipping Seminar to be held September 24, 2011 at Knightdale UMC.  Open to the public, this 2-day seminar will begin Friday evening, Sept. 24th at 7:00 PM with a video and introduction to the theology of Lay Ministry as Biblically described.  The evening session will conclude at 10:00 PM. Saturday morning's session will begin with a Continental Breakfast at 8:00 AM.  The morning session will end at noon, with lunch provided, followed by afternoon sessions.  At 3:00 PM a closing service will be conducted.

This ministry began in 1978 in Cincinnati, OH and has grown to encompass hundreds of churches across the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Korea, Africa, and the Bahamas.  It is used in all denominations, regardless of size, and teaches lay people how to pastor other lay people.  During the seminar, attendees are equipped with the information and training they need to give the love of Jesus to fellow members of their churches.

You are invited to participate in this growth experience.  The cost is $35 per person and includes a copy of Dr. Melvin Steinbron's book, "Can The Pastor Do It Alone?", a 37-page workbook, all sessions, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday.  ONLINE REGISTRATION is open now and we urge you to sign up as soon as possible.  If you prefer, DOWNLOAD, print and complete the registration form and return or fax it to the church office.
